I honestly thought this day would never come.. Since my scale is flaky, it may leave me again, but for now, it's real! I have a BMI of 24.8, which is in the NORMAL range. I have gone from super morbidly obese with a BMI of 50.3 to a healthy, normal BMI of 24.8 in just 17 short months. It's a very surreal feeling! Am I where I want to be yet? No. If I stay here though, I will be alright. I could say I care less what the scale says now, but I know I'd be lying to myself and to you all. I just want to see the 140s. Even if it's for a moment. I think I was in the 140s when I was in 5th or 6th grade. Maybe not. I really don't remember that, I just remember being the fattest kid/adult anywhere I ever went. I'm not that girl anymore, but I still feel that way sometimes. Part of me wants her in my head still, so I can remember where I came from and to make sure I never go back there. The other part wants her forgotten, only to be a distant memory.
I really want to tone up a lot. I don't know how much of my thighs, butt, and stomach fat is really fat, or extra skin. I'm sure quite a bit is skin, but it's really hard telling. I'm ready to get back into a workout routine. Bike riding was so much fun, and I am excited to make that part of my workout, especially while the weather isn't excruciatingly hot! I also am ready to start taking classes, as that will spice things up a bit for me. There are so many different classes at all the 24 Hour Fitness places that are close to me. Some possibilities: belly dancing, hip hop, pilates, yoga, etc. I'm really looking forward to some variety. I'll always love the elliptical, but it'll be nice to do classes as well. Maybe it will make me a little more graceful.. doubtful, but one can dream! LOL
Well, I guess I should get back to work.. just wanted to check in and ramble a bit!
Hope all is well with everyone! :)
Hugs!

Happy Monday! :-)
Hello to all! :-)
I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! Mine was great. Friday night, I went to dinner with John. There is an awesome stir fry place on 290 at Tidwell called Kublai Khan's Crazy Mongolian Stir Fry. You basically make your own plate using raw foods, and then make a sauce, and they stir fry it for you. They add no oils or fats, they use water and whatever sauce you conjure up. Quite tasty! :-) Saturday, John and I picked up Michelle and we all went for our first bike ride. It was an experience! haha The first trail we went to started with a big hill (going DOWN!), and then once the hill ended, there was a bridge. Let me just say, I was terrified. I had decided I was going to walk my bike down that hill because it was too steep, and I haven't ridden a bike since I was about 10 years old. Well, my bike started moving down the hill with me still on it, and the pedals got away from me! Amazingly, I did not end up in the water, or with my face permanently planted into the bridge.. I didn't even fall! And even better, John didn't see me! hahah After that adventure, it was smooth sailing. We ended up riding about 8 miles. I'm not sure if that is good or not, but hey, I'll take it! :) It was definitely a great work out. It was a quite windy day, so we got to ride half of our trail against the wind, and that was challenging! We took Michelle back home, and then we all had time to get ready for the evening, and out we went again! We went to the Aeros game. It was a lot of fun. Then on Sunday, I went with John to visit his family up in Splendora. It was really nice. His mom is super sweet, and his niece and nephew are lots of fun. Then in the evening, we went to see the Watchmen. It was an interesting movie. I liked it, but it wasn't anything that I thought it would be, and it is DEFINITELY not child or even teenager appropriate.
I made it through my crazy week at work last week, and this week is actually going pretty well so far. I have a half day on Friday, which rocks because John has the whole week off, and I can spend more time with him. Tomorrow night I have another hockey game, and Thursday I leave a little early to go see Dr. W for my hospital follow up. Exciting stuff. :-)
Anyways, I'm just rambling as usual.. Till next time! :-)

Back to Life, Back to Reality

Hello all! I'm back to work as of Monday of this week, right in the middle of my month end close. The funny thing is, they don't want me to work more than 8 hours a day to try to prevent me from stressing out. Well, if I miss my deadline b/c I can't work an extra hour or two, I think I'll stress more! I've never NOT made my deadline. We shall see how this week pans out.. lol
This past weekend, I celebrated my 33rd birthday. A few of my friends came over for cake and ice cream, and then we went to Benihana. Yes, dessert first! LOL We went to Dave & Busters afterwards and had a great time!
My sweet, wonderful boyfriend bought me my bike for my birthday. I ended up getting a TREK 7100, and it's SWEET! I love it! We're going riding this weekend, and I simply cannot wait! :) It'll be great exercise, I'll get some Vitamin D in the sunshine, and most importantly, it will be FUN! :)

I'm feeling a lot better now as well. No more stomach aches. Life without a gallbladder is much more comfortable than my life with my gallbladder as of late.. Or maybe it was the hernia.. Life is definitely better without the hernia! lol Leave it to me to get the complication with a 0.0025% complication rate!
Anyways, I better get back to work. I just wanted to check in with everyone. I'll be catching up on my blog reading over the next few days.
Love to you all! :)

Stir Crazy!
Well, I've been home all week, and it's simply maddening! I've been alternating between reading, playing World of Warcraft, and sleeping. Wow, fun stuff huh!?
Within 5 minutes of getting home from the hospital last Friday, I hopped on the scale (yes, I know I'm a freak!). I had gone up to 169.6 from around 163 or so. WOW! I thought I would have lost lots of weight b/c of not eating for several days, etc. Well, things are progressing again, and I'm down to an all time low of 155.6. So, drum roll... I am HALF the girl I used to be. It's crazy.. unreal! And the sad thing is, I still see fat girl in the mirror. I don't know how to make her go away. Any one have any ideas?
I can't go to the gym for awhile. I told John I overdid it yesterday, and he almost freaked b/c he thought I went to the gym.. but I just overdid it in general with trying to declutter my room. I pulled a muscle in my NECK of all places... wtf?! I am going to buy a bike very soon. I osld my recumbent bike and made $200 on it. So that's going to the REAL bike fund. Bikers, i am thinking of getting a TREK bike, a hybrid. Is it really a good investment? I haven't ridden a bike in years, but I am one of those people who want the best.. Or am I being foolish, and should just get a Schwinn?
Sorry again for the rambling nonsense... I'm good at that! :)
Oh, if anyone uses Facebook, feel free to add me! laurie9797@yahoo.com is the email it's linked to.

Hugs to all!

Gallstones, Hernias, Surgery, OH MY!
Hello ladies and gents,
I am back from the hospital! Thanks to everyone for your well wishes, and thanks to Jil for keeping you all updated!
As I had posted last week, I've been having a lot of stomach aches. Apparently, you shouldn't dismiss that as gas! I called Dr. W on Tuesday afternoon to make an appointment, and of course he was booked solid. I just asked his nurse if he could try to fit me in, and she asked what was wrong, and then called Dr. W, who instructed me to go to the emergency room immediately! I started panicking, and was still at work, so I had to go tell my boss that I might not be in the next day, and then went home to grab a few things. My friend Michelle picked me up at home, and took me to the hospital. They ran lots of labwork on me, and followed my surgeons testing protocol to see what's wrong. After my CATscan, it was revealed that I had gallstones. I was admitted, and then finally got my room around 1:30 AM.
Wednesday morning, Dr. W came in to see me, and asked me to describe all my pain (shooting pains feeling like gas, lasting about 4-10 hours after eating in my 3 worst occasions, constant full feeling, no pain relief from gas x, etc.).. he then pushed on my stomach in a few places, and some hurt.. he then said that I was the proud owner of a hernia! A GI Doctor then came to see me, and I told the same story, and he told me the same thing. Basically, the pain I described can be one of three things - gallbladder (check!), hernia (check!), or an ulcer (thankfully, not!). I then got a HIDA scan, and it revealed that my gallbladder was not inflamed at the moment, so the culprit of the pain was the hernia. While I was in the HIDA scan, Dr. J came to visit me. He's another surgeon that does RNY/Lap Band, etc. He told me that I was going to have surgery at 5pm to fix my hernia and to remove the gallbladder.. it wasn't bothering me now, and as I needed to have the hernia repaired, they might as well remove the gallbladder. While I was finding all of this out, I was still in the HIDA Scan, where I could not move. What a way to find out you're going under the knife in just 3 short hours!!
As soon as I got back to my room, I lost it.. I started crying, freaking out.. I know it's a normal surgery, but the whole hernia thing really freaked me out. I know they can get really bad, and I know if I hadn't gone to the doctor, that I would be in much worse shape, and who knows what could have happend! I just had everything running through my mind at that moment and was panicking again! I called several people and got the chain going so everyone would find out. I got to see my mom and Michelle as I was getting rolled into the operating room, and when I got out, I got to see them as well as Jil and my boyfriend John! :) My mom hadn't gotten to meet John yet, so what great circumstances to, right? LOL
Everything went well with the surgery. I had a lot of scar tissue from my RNY, which is to be expected. The one risk that I was most nervous about (strangulated intestines) was the one I got.. Go figure! The surgery was about two longer than he told me it would be. I ended up getting to my room around 10 pm, when I went in around 5.
Here it is, Sunday morning.. and I'm feeling pretty good, but I am sore. Yesterday I was in a lot of pain, mostly gas pain. My stomach is still quite swollen, and I am about to meet my boyfriend's family, and wondering what the heck I'm going to wear that isn't going to kill my incisions.. lol I get to go back to work on Wednesday (WHOO HOO!)
Sorry for the rambling with everything.. I'm not a great writer, and just say things as I think them! :-P I hope everyone is well, and thanks again for all of the well wishes!
Hugs to all!

Getting Back to Basics
I've been having a lot of stomach aches lately, and I really think it's because I'm eating whatever I damn well please.. we all know that's not a good thing! So, I'm going to try to get back to basics and focus on protein, exercise, liquids, etc.
It's really hard being so far out and resisting temptations that are out there! The past few weeks I've been terrible... re-introducing diet coke back into my life.. having a beer... I even had a piece of chocolate cake yesterday. Yes, I paid for it, but why didn't I think before I put it in my mouth?! GEEZ!
Anyways - the scale this morning said 160.4, and my goal is to see the 150s this week. I've seen 160.4 before.. and even gone back up to 165, but haven't seen below... So I'm ready!! :)
I hope everyone had a nice weekend! I had one of my dear friends get engaged over the weekend.. I'm so excited for her! So, I may possibly be in 2 weddings this year.. that's motivation enough to try to get into better shape! :)
Well, it's just a quick blog today - wanted to check in, and declare that I'm making some changes! :) All of you hold me accountable! :)
I'm off today - I may take a little nap to try to get rid of my headache before going to the gym! :)
Hugs to all!

Money Doesn't Grow On Trees!
Hello my favorite people! This isn't really a post about losing weight, or trying to lose weight, but it is about cutting the fat in my life.. the extra money I spend! I'm trying so hard to get out of debt, and I've made several changes recently:- Lowered the minutes on my mobile phone ($10/month savings)
- Removed a few other features on my mobile ($5/month savings)
- Lowered internet plan with Comcast from $45.95 to $24.95 ($21.00/month savings)
- Canceled movie channels with Comcast ($25.00/month savings)
- Called a credit card company to ask for a lower interest rate, since they were trying to kill me... They went from 22.99% to 18.99% - still crappy, but better than before!
- Canceled my home phone ($38/month savings)
- Called my auto insurance place to get my defensive driving discount ($12.00/month savings)
Soo... I'm now saving roughly $110 a month!
Anyone else have any good ideas?
I don't eat out very often. I definitely slowed down on my clothing purchases since I've been stuck in the same 10 lb range forever..
Hope to hear some good ideas from you all!
As far as my credit cards go, I'm doing the debt snowball that Dave Ramsey suggests. :-)
hugs to all!!

10 Pounds
In 10 pounds, I will be "normal" as far as the BMI charts go. And you know what? It's really true.. the last 10 pounds are the hardest. My ultimate goal is 145, but the 10 lbs will put me at 154, which is the highest "normal" weight. I'll take it at this point! lol
I went to Weight Watchers yesterday and had a 0.2 lb gain. I was devastated.. why? No clue! I could have gone to the restroom and re-weighed and probably been fine.. but I was really bummed about it! And honestly I should be surprised that it was only 0.2. I had gone to Charleston for a business trip for 3 days the week before and ate like a pig.. and then Saturday night I had a massive drink... So, had I not done these terrible things, I bet I'd probably be in the 150s.. UGH!
I need to get back on the ball with things. I've done very well today. I've snacked a little, but nothing compared to what I have been. Wish me luck!
Sorry this is so random and garbled.. I'm grumpy today! lol

Honest Crap

I've been tagged on one of the blogs I read, She's a Rebel, She's a Saint to do this little number...
For this one, the rules are simple - list 10 honest things about yourself - and make it interesting, even if you have to dig deep! Then tag 7 bloggers that you feel embody the spirit of the Honest Scrap Award.
So here goes...
10 Honest Things about Me
1) I'm still dealing with MAJOR self esteem issues that I'm having to deal with from my weight loss. I'm trying hard to increase my worthiness in my head, but damn it, it's hard!
2) If I could change anything about myself, the list would be pretty long. I wish my hair were thicker, longer.. My skin not such a brilliant shade of white.. my nose not quite so pointy.. As far as my personality goes, I'm pretty happy with that. Maybe I'm too nice? Is that possible? Lol
3) Lately I've been a gigantic rule breaker as a post wls patient, and it terrifies me. I've been drinking a few diet cokes a week, had a beer, eating more carbs, etc. I'm not at goal yet, and I am terrified my f'd up psyche is trying to screw me over!
4) I am a shopaholic. That's my "transfer addiction". In a way, I'm thankful my credit sucks, b/c I can't get into too much trouble. Shopping is so much more rewarding now that I can shop wherever I like. It's dangerous. I am, however, taking very large steps to improve my financial situation, and that means cutting out the shopping altogether. I will have to learn to actually deal with my issues
5) I'm very open with people about my surgery, except a few. I am starting to feel guilty that I haven't told one person in particular, and not sure if I should spill the beans, or just leave it. I know it's our prerogative whether we share or not, but it's difficult just keeping a small circle of people who don't know.
6) I'm feeling very unfulfilled in my career. I make decent money, but feel empty. When my financial situation improves, maybe I can actually do something I love and be able to make less money.
7) I feel truly blessed to have the friends that I do. I have an incredible amount in common with all of them, yet we're all very different. I know it's very rare to have several amazing friends, and I don't take that for granted.
8) I'm excited and nervous to see what the next year or so brings in every aspect of my life. I'm in a new relationship, I'm still trying to lose weight, and I'm trying to become debt free. I hope all things turn out wonderfully! :)
9) I have had a passport for about 6 months, and I am dying to use it. At this point, I don't care where I go.. I just want a stamp, damn it!
10) I don't have one hero in particular. There are many people who I look up to for one reason or another, but there is not one person I idolize completely. I think that's a good thing.
Now here's the part where I tag others:
Jil
Kim H
Kim J
Meg
Lacy
Heather
Tracey
Janine
Janene
Cindylou
Yeah, I tagged more than I needed to, but it's my blog! Muahaha!
Looking forward to reading about you all! :)

What's the Skinny?
Time sure does seem to fly! The last time I blinked, it was 2008.
I have been the worst blogger ever since I started this thing, but I am really wanting to start blogging at least once a week.. I think that's a hefty little goal for myself, but I'm sure I can do it.
What's new with me?
Hmm..
I have been the worst blogger ever since I started this thing, but I am really wanting to start blogging at least once a week.. I think that's a hefty little goal for myself, but I'm sure I can do it.
What's new with me?
Hmm..
- I've been dating a great guy named John for about a month and a half now. He's cute, he's fun, he's patient with me and my craziness, and he's active! That's great for me so I don't get lazy ever again! WOO HOO!
- I'm currently wearing a pair of jeans that are size 10. WHA?! Yep, 10! Granted, many 10's don't fit me, but this one does, and maybe a few other pairs out there!
- I'm holding at 163ish right now... I'm doing Weight Watchers but fell off the wagon a bit last week with my business trip.. this week is my recovery week! lol
- I love bullet points.. they make things look important!
- I'm working on getting my finances under control. I want to be able to POSSIBLY do plastics one of these days, and with my current financial situation, that's just not possible.
- I drank a beer last night.. Yes, it had bubbles... and yes, it was damn good, and I may even have another quite soon!
- I've had about 3 diet cokes a week. I feel worse about this than I do about the beer.. why? B/c Diet cokes are free at work, and I don't want to get back into the 2-3 a day habit that I used to be in.
- I'm addicted to coffee. Well, this isn't new, but it's a confession. The highly caffeinated stuff is the best! lol
- Last month, John took me out to a shooting range, and I absolutely LOVED it! It was liberating, and I wasn't half bad at it! lol
- I want to save the money to buy a bike, and possibly ride the MS150 in 2010. I doubt I'll own my bike by the 2009 timeframe, and I want to actually make sure I can ride it.. it's been YEARS!
Well, that's about it on my side of the world. I do read all of your blogs ladies, and I will really try to start commenting more often. This bad blogger will try to make right with the world! :)
Love to you all, and I hope your 2009 is wonderful so far! :)

Slacker Blog Girl!
That's what Jil calls me.. I guess that's a hint that I should blog, eh?
Well, I'm doing alright on my GOALS for 2009.
I've been to the gym at least 3 times, probably more, but my brain is not functioning properly today. I also joined Weight Watchers on the 4th of January. I know it's odd for a post-op RNYer to join Weight Watchers, but at this point, I am on my own as far as my weight loss goes. I am finding that I can eat like a "normal" person, so I might as well learn how to eat properly. I follow my plan first - which is high protein, low fat. But I also stay within my points. I think it's going to be very successful for me, and I have found that I was over eating, which is why I essentially stopped losing weight. I'm not ready to be done losing weight. I'm going to hit my goal this time, and I'm going to stay within my goal! :) I'll actually hit lifetime in about 10 pounds, which is awesome. I never thought I'd EVER get to the point where I can go to Weight Watchers and not have to pay for it! hahah.
Work has been amazingly stressful for me lately, hence no blogging. I hope things calm down soon, or I will need to check myself in somewhere! heheh
Ok, back to work now...
Later!
xoxo

Another Year is Here!
Wow, I really can't believe it's 2009 already. So much has changed in the past year, and I'm looking forward to seeing what 2009 has to bring!
I'm really facing the challenges of losing the last few pounds (15-20 more is my goal), keeping off what I lost, and making sure that I get myself mentally on track.. I have mirror image issues, and still think I'm always the biggest one in the room. I am ready for that to escape me! :)
I'm not a big resolution type person, but here are my GOALS for 2009.
1) To make it to the gym more often.
2) To get out of debt, or at least close to it.
3) Declutter my life.
4) Go back to school
5) Come to terms with the new me, and try to know myself again. :)
Hope you all had a happy and safe Christmas and New Year :)

Doctor's Appt Follow Up
Met with Dr. W yesterday.. all was well, except Vitamin D still low. Next time I go in for labwork, I only have to get my Vitamin D tested... I'm done with the rest... woo hoo!
He prescribed me xanax for my "anxiety" that my therapist says I have... we'll see if it makes me stress less.
Anyone in the houston area have any ideas for a good therapist? Mine is weird. lol
Kim - I gave Dr. W your message and he said, That's Great!
Jil - I told Dr. W you missed him but you're healthy so you haven't needed to see him. I think he understands and will start the healing process soon.
well, I am leaving early today and I have a lot to do, so I will write again soon!
Peace out! hehehe

December

Wow, how lame am I? This is my very first post for December. I've been busy. Work is crazy... My sinuses hate me right now.. and It's Christmas time! Am I all done with my shopping? Not even close.
I've been stuck at the same weight again for a few weeks... 169.6... Too close to 170 for me to feel comfortable with at this point, but we shall see. I have been a slacker, and not working out. I've also been making stupid food choices, so I guess I should be grateful for 169.6! lol

I go see Dr. W tomorrow to follow up on my labs and to inform him of all of my adventures in life.. ie. therapy, hormone problems, etc. It should be an interesting little visit! :-) His goal for me is 160 and I wanted to be there by the next time I saw him, but unless there is a miracle, I seriously doubt I will be dropping 9 lbs in 24 hours. heheh
Well, I will try to post again tomorrow to let you all know how my appointment went! :)
Ciao!

A Breakup Letter
Dear Evil Scale,I am sick of you running my life and basing my self worth on what you tell me each morning, afternoon and evening. I will no longer let you decide how I feel about myself. Our relationship must end, and although I need you in my life, you will not control my life. I will visit you once a week instead of three times per day until I can get over my obsession with you.
I hope you understand that this MUST be done for my own sanity, along with the sanity of my friends who have to tolerate hearing about how poorly you treat me every day! Our love/hate relationship has been an interesting one over the past 13 months, but now it's time to live life on MY terms. I will make the right choices in life and THAT'S WHAT MATTERS!
Love/hate always,
L

Weekend Update
Well, it's Monday again... ::sigh::
I had a nice weekend though with the exception of a few bumps in the road!
Jil came over Friday night and we had a little slumber party.. woo hoo! We went to return a few things and ended up going to sleep pretty early b/c of the OH Conference..
Then Saturday, we went to the OH Conference with our friend Rosanne. I had a great time, got to meet a lot of great people, and left feeling motivated to get this last 20+ pounds off of me. It made me realize how much I need a support group, especially now that this weight is becoming more and more stubborn about falling off of me. There were some fantastic speakers there, and if the OH conference ever comes to your area, GO! You will leave feeling like a new person.
We didn't stay for the casino night and dance afterwards, and went pickle shopping and clothes shopping as well. There are the most awesome pickles at Droubi's Market on Hillcroft. I must say, amazing.. and I'm not a pickle person.. well, now I am, but it's because of these damn pickles! Then we went to the Cypress Outlet mall.. It's nice trying on clothes and liking how they look on me.. huzzah! Soon after though, I lost my wallet. I had all my credit/debit cards in there, as well as my license and social security card.. I know you're not supposed to keep your social with you, but I had it, and now I have to replace it.. UGH! I had cash too, but it was only about $30-35, so not too terrible. I did get all my cards cancelled before they were used, so that's great news! :)
Sunday I woke up with a nasty headache, but I took a Maxalt and all was good within an hour or so.. I got a lot of work done for my garage sale this weekend, so I'm grateful for that. And thanks to Jil for helping me so much.. you rock! WOO HOO!
Wow, I'm rambling... I bet it's the coffee! lol
Well, I better get back to work for now...
Til next time! :)

I love coffee! OH Conference Tomorrow.. YEAH!
Yeah, I know we're not supposed to have much caffeine.. But, everyone has to have a vice, and mine has been chosen. HEB has this Almond Joy coffee and OMG it's so delicious. Caffeine effects me like it never has before.. I am bouncy and talkative and my mouth moves faster than my brain. My poor co-worker next to me.. good thing she loves me! haha
Anyways.. I'm going to the OH Conference tomorrow, and I'm really looking forward to it. I'm getting to the point where losing an ounce is a struggle. I can eat like a "normal" person and making the best choices aren't as easy as they used to be. I'm optimistic that I will be leaving the conference tomorrow with fresh ammo to make it through and have a renewed spirit when it comes to this journey I'm on. I hope to meet some new people that I've seen on the message boards on OH and match faces to the names! :) It will be great!
I started my new meds for my PCOS on Tuesday night. Wednesday morning was tough... and Wednesday afternoon was even worse. I have been exhausted and I'm finally starting to feel a little more awake now.. But again, that's probably the coffee. It's probably not a good week to start the meds b/c I have mother nature visiting, just got over a 60 hour work week, new meds, garage sale prep stress, etc. It's a lot going on for me, and adding on side effects probably isn't the smartest thing! LOL Oh well, I'll get all the crap over with at once!
I'm really looking forward to Thanksgiving. Last Thanksgiving I was on soft foods, and it was kind of torturous. This year, I can enjoy my turkey that I am in love with! Hurray! :)
Well, I should probably get back to work... I hope to see some of you at the OH conference this weekend!
Hugs to all!

169!
I finally got out of the 170s... After 3 months of being there, my stubborn body broke out of the 170s.. granted, I may not be done seeing them, as we all know the scale can be very cruel to us.. but I have been in the 169.0-.8 range for 3 days now, so I think it's finally done with the 170s.. now, to try to get to the 150s... My original goal was to weigh 150 by January 15th, but I don't think that's going to happen with the slowness of my weight loss. I know it's possible, but it will be very tough to get there!
I went to my doctor's appointment on Monday to find out about my hormone hell. Apparently my prolactin (the hormone that produces milk) is twice as high as it should be, so my body thinks it is pregnant.. wtf!? Anyways, my birth control pill has been switched for a different one, and I'm on Parlodel to help with the prolactin. My testosterone was also high, but that will change with the birth control pill change. So, once I find Prince Charming and decide I want to have babies, I will likely need fertility medicine for that... Sigh..
I got my labwork done for Dr. W, so I just need to schedule him in.. I will probably try to go Thanksgiving week, or maybe the week after.
Well, I better get back to work! I just wanted to check in and update you all on my weight and my crazy hormones!
Till next time! :)
